AGLUCKY Portable Countertop Ice Maker Review

The Aglucky Ice Machine is the budget option for people who want to make a small collection of ice cubes fast.

The manufacturer designed this machine to be simple, portable, and quick, so you can add ice cubes to your impromptu BBQ party, add some needed cold drinks to randomly hot days, or just to have on standby in the office.

Today we are going to examine whether the Aglucky achieves what it set out to do and if it’s worth purchasing this portable ice machine.

The packaging around the ice machine is well packed, which means that unless the delivery driver uses the box as a football, you should receive the ice machine in good condition.

When you take the Aglucky out of the box, there is very little you need to do to set up the ice machine.

You don’t need to screw anything together, as it comes in one piece. There is a small manual that we recommend you read and follow their instructions on safety features.

So far everything is going well!

Ease Of Use

Next to the ice bucket is a control panel that says “Add Water,” “Ice Full,” “Power,” “S,” and “L.” When the ice machine is plugged in, the “Power” light comes on to indicate that everything is ready to go. So far everything is simple.

There is a small water tray at the back, which you need to fill with water. If the water tank is empty, the “Add Water” light will flash on.

To make the device create ice, all you need to do is press the “on/off” button and click “select.”

“Select” moves the light from “S” to “L” and back again. “S” represents small ice cubes, and “L” represents large ice cubes.

As long as you move the light to the right size, there is no second guessing which button you need to press.

Once the ice tray is full, the “Ice Full” light will come on, telling you to empty the bucket.

The whole process is super simple and doesn’t take a tech-whizz to understand.

Different Functions

Simplicity comes with its own drawbacks.

There are not a lot of functions for you to use apart from changing the size of the ice cubes.

That being said, the ice bucket can be taken out of the ice machine, meaning you don’t have to touch the ice to transport it.

The ice basket is relatively small, though, so if you wanted to fill up a wheelbarrow with ice, it would take a lot of time and way too many trips.

The ice bucket also comes with an ice scoop. This might be the more appropriate way to move the ice around, as the bucket itself has a cooling function.

In previous generations, Aglucky’s ice machines only kept the ice solid for a short amount of time.

This is because the machine that made the ice would overheat the basket. Now they have created an efficient compressor to cool down the mechanics and keep the ice cold.

It takes around 6 to 10 minutes for the machine to make 9 ice cubes.

This number is important, as it can only create 9 ice cubes at a time.

If you plan on having a BBQ and want to have ice ready, we recommend putting the machine on an hour and a half in advance.

That way, you will definitely have enough ice cubes for your party.Depending on how many people then use the machine, the ice might run out quickly.

If you only have 3 guests for a Gin and Tonic night, then the ice will keep your drinks cold all evening, but if you have a party of 20 people, you are going to need a couple of pre-made ice cubes in the freezer ready.

The Aglucky is small and light, weighing 15.65lb and just 13.2 inches tall.

This means you can put it in your suitcase, keep it tucked in your van, or have it sit prettily on a countertop.

However, you do need to plug the machine into a socket.

The Aglucky ice machine isn’t wireless, which means that the biggest idea of portability in our modern-day era hasn’t been met.

To combat this, you can buy a portable solar panel and then connect it to the ice machine using a USB to plug converter, but that will cost you more money, and to some, this level of messing around might be too much.

If you are thinking about buying the Aglucky for a specific occasion, use this information to help you determine if this is the right ice machine for you.

Making ice cubes on the beach will only work if you take some kind of portable generator.

But if you were hoping to add a little ice machine to the kitchen, so you always have ice on hand, then Aglucky will be perfect!

Noise Control

The cooling system we mentioned before also has a noise dampener attached.

This means that the noise from the machine has been muffled to make the experience quieter.

The dampener does more than quieten the engine, though; it also saves energy by reusing the kinetic energy that would otherwise be released.

If released, it would heat up the cooling system, which is why this is a great two-in-one system.

We haven’t measured the noise of the machine in decibels, but it does make a little whirring sound as the fans spin.

It also makes a little snapping sound when the ice is released from its chamber.

Whenever machinery is active, it can never be completely silent, but we wouldn’t expect this level of noise to disrupt any event you have planned.

All in all, we would call the Aglucky quiet.

If you buy the machine and notice that it is creating a squeaking noise, then call up the manufacturer. There could be something wrong with the mechanics.

One of the most important instructions in the manual is to let the machine rest upright for several hours before using it for the first time.

This is to allow the refrigerant to settle after being moved so much during shipping. The manual says to let it rest for one hour.

We suggest doing this every time you take the Aglucky on a long trip, not just the first time.

Also, if the ice becomes wet, it will start to clump. Wet ice occurs when the ice has melted slightly. If it then refreezes, the melted surface will then freely solidify and attach itself to anything it is lying against.

To stop this from happening, you shouldn’t open the ice bucket too often. This could mean only grabbing ice every now and then or taking all the ice out when the basket is full.

If you find that the ice has clumped together, then empty out the whole ice bucket, and use a warm cloth to melt away the ice.

Pros And Cons

With everything considered, we wanted to create a quick and easy pros and cons list to help you decide if the Aglucky ice machine is the right choice for you.

Can You Empty The Aglucky’s Bucket Before It Is Full?

Yes, you can.

It would be better to wait until the bucket is full so you don’t keep opening the lid and letting the ice melt.

As we said before, this can create clumps. However, if you want to empty the bucket, it will not stop the ice making process, so you can do so while the machine is running.

What Do The Cubes Look Like?

The cubes are hollow and long. Imagine the shape of a material that covers just your fingers.

When you pick the larger size, the shape is the same, but the “material” is thicker.

The Aglucky is good for its size and its price tag.

Although we would like to have a quicker ice making system, the speed you get is representative of the price you pay.

The ice cubes themselves are a good size and a nice looking round shape, so the product is again worth the purchase.

We would have liked the machine to be more portable, with a wireless feature even if it only lasts a couple of hours.

That being said, there are workarounds you can use if you want to take the ice machine away from the mains, but again this means buying more equipment. To really utilize this machine, we recommend making ice and keeping it in your freezer in advance of the event you want to use it for.

To some, this might sound redundant as an ice tray will work just as well without having to spend hundreds of dollars, and in all honesty, these people aren’t wrong.
