EUHOMY 26lbs Portable Countertop Ice Maker Review

Any drink from a pint of beer to a glass of lemonade is much better when cold.

There are a few things more refreshing than a nice chilled drink, especially in hot weather, but what do you do if there’s no ice.

Normally you would have to fill an ice tray with water and leave it in the freezer for 3-4 hours.

With an ice maker, you can be enjoying your chilled beverage of choice in just a matter of minutes.

No more carefully balancing a dripping tray full of water as you carry it to the freezer; you can keep your ice maker on the kitchen countertop to enjoy instant ice whenever you need it.

In this review, we will be looking at the EUHOMY 26lbs Countertop Ice Maker.

With this compact and easy to use device in your kitchen, you can freeze liters of water with just the push of a button.

So whether you just want to chill down your own drinks or prepare enough ice for a small party, let’s dive in to what the EUHOMY can do for you.

The EUHOMY works like many other portable ice makers.

Water from the reservoir is channeled into a separate compartment with 9 metal prongs.

These metal poles are made freezing cold by the compressor which causes water to coalesce and freeze around them.

Once the ice has reached a certain weight, a sensor will cause the prongs to lift out of the water.

When the prongs are in position over the ice basket, they are slightly heated up so the ice slides off to be deposited in the bucket.

Because of the way it works, the ice produced by this machine will be softer and chewier than the kind you can make in your freezer.

Due to the way the water freezes around the metal prongs, this device will make hollowed-out frozen bullets instead of the standard cubes.

The Euhomy can create 9 of these ice bullets in 8 minutes meaning you won’t have to wait long for your nice cold beverage.

There is a setting to make the bullets either small or large, and from a full reservoir of tap water this device can make 1.54 lbs of ice per basket and up to 26lbs of ice in a single day.

The Hardware

Now that we have seen how much ice the machine can make, it’s time to look at how well the EUHOMY is put together.

This should give you a better idea of just how this device functions and how you can expect it to perform on your own kitchen counter.

The Compressor

The compressor is probably the most important component as it is responsible for lowering the temperature of the metal rods to freeze the water around them.

The EUHOMY is 17.20lbs and most of this weight is likely to be the compressor.

One of the main benefits of this ice maker is its energy efficiency, so no need to worry about running up your electricity bill.

Naturally, if you are making lots of ice, you don’t want the machine to make loads of noise in the process.

Thankfully the compressor is very quiet and can work away in the background while you do other things. In fact, this ice maker is so silent you’ll probably forget it’s there.

The Ice Bucket

When the metal rods have gathered a sufficient volume of ice around them, they raise up to deposit the frozen bullets into the basket.

Thanks to the transparent lid you can watch this process in action and keep an eye on how your machine is doing.

The basket itself is removable which helps because the machine doesn’t have the ability to keep the ice below 32°F after it’s finished. Because of this, you may want to put the whole basket in the freezer to use at your leisure.

When full, each bucket holds 1.54lbs of ice and there is an infrared sensor at the top of the machine to prevent overflow when the basket is full.

The Water Tank

The EUHOMY can hold up to 2.2 liters of water, either filtered or straight from the tap.

There are holes in the ice basket that allow the machine to recycle unused water for greater efficiency.

Using purer water that has been filtered or bought will make clearer ice pieces compared to those made with regular tap water, which will be cloudier.

You may be inspired to use your EUHOMY for making flavored ice but this is a bad idea as any thick or sugary liquids will clog up the machine and cause it to break.

First-Time Set-Up

When you first unpack your ice maker you may want to plug it in and start making chilled beverages as soon as possible.

However, as with many other brands, you will need to go through some simple steps to set up your EUHOMY.

Firstly you will want to clean out the reservoir and ice basket.

This is simple to do with some warm water and soap, just make sure you leave your ice maker with the lid open so it can air dry after rinsing thoroughly to remove any leftover soap.

After cleaning, the company advises you to let the machine stand upright on your kitchen counter for 24 hours.

The reason for this is to let the chemicals in the compressor, which will have been disturbed during transport, settle so they can work as intended.

If you are looking for instant ice pieces whenever you want them, the EUHOMY is a great choice.

Not only is it fast and efficient, but this device can easily produce more than enough ice for a whole family on a single full tank.

It also makes a great appliance for parties since it can provide endless chilled drinks at a moment’s notice as long as you leave it running and regularly empty the basket.

EUHOMY 26lbs Countertop Ice Maker Buying Guide

Ice makers can save a lot of time and hassle when compared to ice trays that you place in the freezer.

Not only are they quicker and more convenient, but you can easily produce enough ice for a whole family or even a large party so you can enjoy all of your favorite chilled beverages whenever you want.

How Much Ice Does It Make And What Kind?

The first thing you will want to know when shopping for an ice maker is how much ice it can create.

Most machines will continuously produce batches of ice until they have filled up the basket. If you only need a few pieces you will only need to run the machine for a single cycle.

Many machines can make a batch of frozen ice in a few minutes, which is considerably less time than it would take in your freezer.

Some machines will make standard ice cubes, while others will create hollow ice bullets, which are faster at cooling your drink due to their larger surface area.

Sometimes they will make ice that is crisp and hard, and other times the ice will be soft and chewy.

Which one you choose will largely be down to personal preference and what kind of chilled drinks you want to enjoy.

Water Capacity

You want to buy an ice maker with a decent tank size. Not only will these machines produce more ice pieces, but they also last longer between refills.

It is always important to regularly clean your water tank to prevent it from becoming contaminated and giving your ice a nasty taste.

For some devices, this will simply be a case of wiping around the tank with hot water and soaps before leaving it to air dry.

Other ice makers will have designated clean functions that will require you to fill the tank with diluted bleach and run the clean cycle.

With these machines, it is necessary to run the clean cycle at least three more times with fresh water to remove any leftover bleach before you make more ice.

Noise Level

Any appliance that makes an annoying noise won’t be a welcome addition to your kitchen. It is a good idea to check reviews to see if a particular ice maker is as silent as advertised.
